Primecoin

Discussion about Primecoin and its infra. Primecoin is a very innovative cryptocurrency, being the 1st non Hash-Cash PoW crypto, naturally scarce (not artificially), with very fast confirmations (1min), elastic readjusting reward & a useful mining (byproducts are primes). Primecoin is sustainable (miners are guaranteed to have revenues), and decentralized (ASIC/FPGA are not particularly advantaged). Sidechain for decentralized data applications (e.g. Storj) currently in development.

Staking in Ethereum 2.0: when will it appear and how much can you earn on it?

Staking in Ethereum 2.0: when will it appear and how much can you earn on it?

Staking in Ethereum 2.0: when will it appear and how much can you earn on it?

Why coin staking will be added in Ethereum 2.0

A brief educational program for those who do not follow the update of the project of Vitalik Buterin. Ethereum has long been in need of updating, and the main problem of the network is scalability: the blockchain is overloaded, transactions are slowing down, and the cost of “gas” (transaction fees) is growing. If you do not update the consensus algorithm, then the network will someday cease to be operational. To avoid this, developers have been working for several years on moving the network from the PoW algorithm to state 2.0, running on PoS. This should make the network more scalable, faster and cheaper. In December last year, the first upgrade phase, Istanbul, was implemented in the network, and in April of this year, the Topaz test network with the possibility of staking was launched - the first users already earned 1%. In the PoS algorithm that Ethereum switches to, there is no mining, and validation occurs due to the delegation of user network coins to the masternodes. For the duration of the delegation, these coins are frozen, and for providing their funds for block validation, users receive a portion of the reward. This is staking - such a crypto-analogue of a bank deposit. There are several types of staking: with income from dividends or masternodes, but not the device’s power, as in PoW algorithms, but the number of miner coins is important in all of them. The more coins, the higher the income. For crypto investors, staking is an opportunity to receive passive income from blocked coins. It is assumed that the launch of staking:
  • Will make ETH mining more affordable, but less resource intensive;
  • Will make the network more secure and secure - attacks will become too expensive;
  • Will create an entirely new sector of steak infrastructure around the platform;
  • Provides increased scalability, which will create the opportunity for wider implementation of DeFi protocols;
  • And, most importantly, it will show that Ethereum is a developing project.

The first payments to stakeholders will be one to two years after the launch of the update

The minimum validator steak will be 32 ETN (≈$6092 for today). This is the minimum number of coins that an ETH holder must freeze in order to qualify for payments. Another prerequisite is not to disconnect your wallet from the network. If the user disconnects and goes into automatic mode, he loses his daily income. If at some point the steak drops below 16 ETH, the user will be deprived of the right to be a validator. The Ethereum network has to go through many more important stages before coin holders can make money on its storage. Collin Myers, the leader of the product strategy at the startup of the Ethereum developer ConsenSys, said that the genesis block of the new network will not be mined until the total amount of frozen funds reaches 524,000 ETN ($99.76 million at the time of publication). So many coins should be kept by 16,375 validators with a minimum deposit of 32 ETN. Until this moment, none of them will receive a percentage profit. Myers noted that this event is not tied to a clear time and depends on the activity of the community. All validators will have to freeze a rather significant amount for an indefinite period in the new network without confidence in the growth of the coin rate. It’s hard to say how many people there are. The developers believe that it will take 12−18 or even 24 months. According to the latest ConsenSys Codefi report, more than 65% of the 300 ETH owners surveyed plan to use the staking opportunity. This sample, of course, is not representative, but it can be assumed that most major coin holders will still be willing to take a chance.

How much can you earn on Ethereum staking

Developers have been arguing for a long time about what profitability should be among the validators of the Ethereum 2.0 network. The economic model of the network maintains an inflation rate below 1% and dynamically adjusts the reward scale for validators. The difficulty is not to overpay, but not to pay too little. Profitability will be variable, as it depends on the number and size of steaks, as well as other parameters. The fewer frozen coins and validators, the higher the yield, and vice versa. This is an easy way to motivate users to freeze ETN. According to the October calculations of Collin Myers, after the launch of Ethereum 2.0, validators will be able to receive from 4.6% to 10.3% per annum as a reward for their steak. At the summit, he clarified that the first time after the launch of the Genesis block, it can even reach 20.3%. But as the number of steaks grows, profitability will decline. So, with five million steaks, it drops to about 6.6%. The above numbers are not net returns. They do not include equipment and electricity costs. According to Myers, after the Genesis block, the costs of maintaining the validator node will be about 4.75% of the remuneration. They will continue to increase as the number of blocked coins increases, and with a five millionth steak, they will grow to about 14.7%. Myers emphasized that profitability will be higher for those who will work on their own equipment, rather than relying on cloud services. The latter, according to his calculations, at current prices can bring a loss of up to minus 15% per year. This, he believes, promotes true decentralization. At the end of April, Vitalik Buterin said that validators will be able to earn 5% per annum with a minimum stake of 32 ETH - 1.6 ETH per year, or $ 304 at the time of publication. However, given the cost of freezing funds, the real return will be at 0.8%.

How to calculate profitability from ETN staking

The easiest way to calculate the estimated return for Ethereum staking is to use a special calculator. For example, from the online services EthereumPrice or Stakingrewards. The service takes into account the latest indicators of network profitability, as well as additional characteristics: the time of operation of a node in the network, the price of a coin, the share of blocked ETNs and so on. Depending on these values, the profit of the validator can vary greatly. For example, you block 32 ETNs at today's coin price - $190, 1% of the coins are blocked, and the node works 99% of the time. According to the EthereumPrice calculator, in this case your yield will be 14.25% per annum, or 4.56 ETH.
Validator earnings from the example above for 10 years according to EthereumPrice.
If to change the data, you have the same steak, but the proportion of blocked coins is 10%. Now your annual yield is only 4.51%, or 1.44 ETH.
Validator earnings from the second example over 10 years according to EthereumPrice.
It is important that this is profitability excluding expenses. Real returns will be significantly lower and in the second case may be negative. In addition, you must consider the fluctuation of the course. Even with a yield of 14% per annum in ETN, dollar-denominated returns may be negative in a bear market.

When will the transition to Ethereum 2.0 start

Ben Edgington from Teku, the operator of Ethereum 2.0, at the last summit said that the transition to PoS could be launched in July this year. These deadlines, if there are no new delays, were also mentioned by experts of the BitMEX crypto exchange in their recent report on the transition of the Ethereum ecosystem to stage 2.0. However, on May 12, Vitalik Buterin denied the possibility of launching Ethereum 2.0 in July. The network is not yet ready and is unlikely to be launched before the end of the year. July 30 marks the 5th anniversary of the launch of Ethereum. Unfortunately, it seems that it will not be possible to start the update for the anniversary again. Full deployment of updates will consist of several stages. Phase 0. Beacon chain. The "zero" phase, which can be launched in July this year. In fact, it will only be a network test and PoS testing without economic activity, but it will use new ETN coins and the possibility of staking will appear. The "zero" phase will test the first layer of Ethereum 2.0 architecture - Lighthouse. This is the Ethereum 2.0 client in Rust, developed back in 2018. Phase 1. Sharding - rejection of full nodes in favor of load balancing between all network nodes (shards). This should increase network bandwidth and solve the scalability problem. This is the first full phase of Ethereum 2.0. It will initially be deployed with 64 shards. It is because of sharding that the transition of a network to a new state is so complicated - existing smart contracts cannot be transferred to a new network. Therefore, at first, perhaps several years, both networks will exist simultaneously. Phase 2. State execution. In this phase, various applications will work, and it will be possible to conclude smart contracts. This is a full-fledged working Ethereum 2.0 network. After the second phase, two networks will work in parallel - Ethereum and Ethereum 2.0. Coin holders will be able to transfer ETN from the first to the second without the ability to transfer them back. To stimulate network support, coin emissions in both networks will increase until they merge. Read more about the phases of transition to state 2.0 in the aforementioned BitMEX report.

How the upgrade to Ethereum 2.0 will affect the staking market and coin price

The transition of the second largest coin to PoS will dramatically increase the stake in the market. The deposit in 32 ETH is too large for most users. Therefore, we should expect an increase in offers for staking from the exchanges. So, the launch of such a service in November was announced by the largest Swiss crypto exchange Bitcoin Suisse. She will not have a minimum deposit, and the commission will be 15%. According to October estimates by Binance Research analysts, the transition of Ethereum to stage 2.0 can double the price of a coin and the stake of staking in the market, and it will also make ETH the most popular currency on the PoS algorithm. Adam Cochran, partner at MetaCartel Ventures DAO and developer of DuckDuckGo, argued in his blog that Ethereum's transition to state 2.0 would be the “biggest event” of the cryptocurrency market. He believes that a 3–5% return will attract the capital of large investors, and fear of lost profit (FOMO) among retail investors will push them to actively buy coins. The planned coin burning mechanism for each transaction will reduce the potential oversupply. However, BitMEX experts in the report mentioned above believe that updating the network will not be as important an event as it seems to many, and will not have a significant impact on the coin rate and the staking market. Initially, this will be more likely to test the PoS system, rather than a full-fledged network. There will be no economic activity and smart contracts, and interest for a steak will not be paid immediately. Therefore, most of the economic activity will continue to be concluded in the original Ethereum network, which will work in parallel with the new one. Analysts of the exchange emphasized that due to the addition of staking, the first time (short, in their opinion) a large number of ETNs will be blocked on the network. Most likely, this will limit the supply of coins and lead to higher prices. However, this can also release some of the ETNs blocked in smart contracts, and then the price will not rise. Moreover, the authors of the document are not sure that the demand for coins will be long-term and stable. For this to happen, PoS and sharding must prove that they work stably and provide the benefits for which the update was started. But, if this happens, the network is waiting for a wave of coins from the developers of smart contracts and DeFi protocols. In any case, quick changes should not be expected. A full transition to Ethereum 2.0 will take years and won’t be smooth - network failures are inevitable. We also believe that we should not rely on Ethereum staking as another panacea for all the problems of the coin and the market. Most likely, the transition of the network to PoS will not have a significant impact on the staking market, but may positively affect the price of the coin. However, relying on the ETN rally in anticipation of this is too optimistic.

A decentralized storage network that transforms cloud storage into an account market. Miners obtain the integrity of the original protocol by providing data storage and / or retrieval. On the contrary, customers pay miners to store or distribute data and retrieve it.
Filecoin announced, that there will be more delays before its main network is officially launched.
Filecoin developers postponed the release date of their main network to late July to late August 2020.
As mentioned in a recent announcement, the Filecoin team said that the initiative completed the first round of the internal protocol security audit. Platform developers claim that the results of the review showed that they need to make several changes to the protocol’s code base before performing the second stage of the software testing process.
Created by Protocol Labs, Filecoin was developed using File System (IPFS), which is a peer-to-peer data storage network. Filecoin will allow users to trade storage space in an open and decentralized market.
Filecoin developers implemented one of the largest cryptocurrency sales in 2017. They have privately obtained over $ 200 million from professional or accredited investors, including many institutional investors.
The main network was slated to launch last month, but in February 2020, the Philly Queen development team delayed the release of the main network between July 15 and July 17, 2020.
They claimed that the outbreak of the Coronavirus (COVID-19) in China was the main cause of the delay. The developers now say that they need more time to solve the problems found during a recent codecase audit.
The Filecoin team noted the following:
“We have drafted a number of protocol changes to ensure that building our major network launch is safe and economically sound.” The project developers will add them to two different implementations of Filecoin (Lotus and go-filecoin) in the coming weeks.
Filecoin developers conducted a survey to allow platform community members to cast their votes on three different launch dates for Testnet Phase 2 and mainnet.
The team reported that the community gave their votes. Based on the vote results, the Filecoin team announced a “conservative” estimate that the second phase of the network test should begin by May 11, 2020. The main Filecoin network may be launched sometime between July 20 and August 21, 2020.
The updates to the project can be found on the Filecoin Road Map.
Filecoin developers stated:
“This option will make us get the most important protocol changes first, and then implement the rest as protocol updates during testnet.” Filecoin is back down from the final test stage.
Another filecoin decentralized storage network provider launched its catalytic test network, the final stage of the storage network test that supports the blockchain.
In a blog post on her website, Filecoin said she will postpone the last test round until August. The company also announced a calibration period from July 20 to August 3 to allow miners to test their mining settings and get an idea of how competition conditions affected their rewards.
Filecoin had announced earlier last month that the catalytic testnet test would precede its flagship launch. The delay in the final test also means that the company has returned the main launch window between August 31 and September 21.
Despite the lack of clear incentives for miners and multiple delays, Filecoin has succeeded in attracting huge interest, especially in China. Investors remained highly speculating on the network’s mining hardware and its premium price.
Mining in Filecoin
In most blockchain protocols, “miners” are network participants who do the work necessary to promote and maintain the blockchain. To provide these services, miners are compensated in the original cryptocurrency.
Mining in Filecoin works completely differently — instead of contributing to computational power, miners contribute storage capacity to use for dealing with customers looking to store data.
Filecoin will contain several types of miners:
Storage miners responsible for storing files and data on the network. Miners retrieval, responsible for providing quick tubes for file recovery. Miners repair to be carried out.
Storage miners are the heart of the network. They earn Filecoin by storing data for clients, and computerizing cipher directories to check storage over time. The probability of earning the reward reward and transaction fees is proportional to the amount of storage that the Miner contributes to the Filecoin network, not the hash power.
Retriever miners are the veins of the network. They earn Filecoin by winning bids and mining fees for a specific file, which is determined by the market value of the said file size. Miners bandwidth and recovery / initial transaction response time will determine its ability to close recovery deals on the network.
The maximum bandwidth of the recovery miners will determine the total amount of deals that it can enter into.
In the current implementation, the focus is mostly on storage miners, who sell storage capacity for FIL.

Hardware recommendations

The current system specifications recommended for running the miner are:
Compared to the hardware requirements for running a validity checker, these standards are much higher — although they definitely deserve it. Since these will not increase in the presumed future, the money spent on Filecoin mining hardware will provide users with many years of reliable service, and they pay themselves many times. Think of investing as a small business for cloud storage. To launch a model on the current data hosting model, it will cost millions of dollars in infrastructure and logistics to get started. With Filecoin, you can do the same for a few thousand dollars.
Proceed to mining
Deals are the primary function of the Filecoin network, and it represents an agreement between a client and miners for a “storage” contract.
Once the customer decides to have a miner to store based on the available capacity, duration and price required, he secures sufficient funds in a linked portfolio to cover the total cost of the deal. The deal is then published once the mine accepts the storage agreement. By default, all Filecoin miners are set to automatically accept any deal that meets their criteria, although this can be disabled for miners who prefer to organize their deals manually.
After the deal is published, the customer prepares the data for storage and then transfers it to the miner. Upon receiving all the data, the miner fills in the data in a sector, closes it, and begins to provide proofs to the chain. Once the first confirmation is obtained, the customer can make sure the data is stored correctly, and the deal has officially started.
Throughout the deal, the miner provides continuous proofs to the chain. Clients gradually pay with money they previously closed. If there is missing or late evidence, the miner is punished. More information about this can be found in the Runtime, Cut and Penalties section of this page.
At Filecoin, miners earn two different types of rewards for their efforts: storage fees and reward prevention.
Storage fees are the fees that customers pay regularly after reaching a deal, in exchange for storing data. This fee is automatically deposited into the withdrawal portfolio associated with miners while they continue to perform their duties over time, and is locked for a short period upon receipt.
Block rewards are large sums given to miners calculated on a new block. Unlike storage fees, these rewards do not come from a linked customer; Instead, the new FIL “prints” the network as an inflationary and incentive measure for miners to develop the chain. All active miners on the network have a chance to get a block bonus, their chance to be directly proportional to the amount of storage space that is currently being contributed to the network.
Duration of operation, cutting and penalties
“Slashing” is a feature found in most blockchain protocols, and is used to punish miners who fail to provide reliable uptime or act maliciously against the network.
In Filecoin, miners are susceptible to two different types of cut: storage error cut, unanimously reduce error.
Storage Error Reduction is a term used to include a wider range of penalties, including error fees, sector penalties, and termination fees. Miners must pay these penalties if they fail to provide reliability of the sector or decide to leave the network voluntarily.
An error fee is a penalty that a miner incurs for each non-working day. Sector punishment: A penalty incurred by a miner of a disrupted sector for which no error was reported before the WindowPoSt inspection.
The sector will pay an error fee after the penalty of the sector once the error is discovered.
Termination Fee: A penalty that a miner incurs when a sector is voluntary or involuntarily terminated and removed from the network.
Cutting consensus error is the penalty that a miner incurs for committing consensus errors. This punishment applies to miners who have acted maliciously against the network consensus function.
Filecoin miners
Eight of the top 10 Felticoin miners are Chinese investors or companies, according to the blockchain explorer, while more companies are selling cloud mining contracts and distributed file sharing system hardware. CoinDesk’s Wolfe Chao wrote: “China’s craze for Filecoin may have been largely related to the long-standing popularity of crypto mining in the country overall, which is home to about 65% of the computing power on Bitcoin at discretion.”
With Filecoin approaching the launch of the mainnet blocknet — after several delays since the $ 200 million increase in 2017 — Chinese investors are once again speculating strongly about network mining devices and their premium prices.
Since Protocol Labs, the company behind Filecoin, released its “Test Incentives” program on June 9 that was scheduled to start in a week’s time, more than a dozen Chinese companies have started selling cloud mining contracts and hardware — despite important details such as economics Mining incentives on the main network are still endless.
Sales volumes to date for each of these companies can range from half a million to tens of millions of dollars, according to self-reported data on these platforms that CoinDesk has watched and interviews with several mining hardware manufacturers.
Filecoin’s goal is to build a distributed storage network with token rewards to spur storage hosting as a way to drive wider adoption. Protocol Labs launched a test network in December 2019. But the tokens mined in the testing environment so far are not representative of the true silicon coin that can be traded when the main network is turned on. Moreover, the mining incentive economics on testnet do not represent how final block rewards will be available on the main network.
However, data from Blockecoin’s blocknetin testnet explorers show that eight out of 10 miners with the most effective mining force on testnet are currently Chinese miners.
These eight miners have about 15 petabytes (PB) of effective storage mining power, accounting for more than 85% of the total test of 17.9 petable. For the context, 1 petabyte of hard disk storage = 1000 terabytes (terabytes) = 1 million gigabytes (GB).
Filecoin craze in China may be closely related to the long-standing popularity of crypt mining in the country overall, which is home to about 65% of the computing power on Bitcoin by estimation. In addition, there has been a lot of hype in China about foreign exchange mining since 2018, as companies promote all types of devices when the network is still in development.
“Encryption mining has always been popular in China,” said Andy Tien, co-founder of 1475, one of several mining hardware manufacturers in Philquin supported by prominent Chinese video indicators such as Fenbushi and Hashkey Capital.
“Even though the Velikoyen mining process is more technologically sophisticated, the idea of mining using hard drives instead of specialized machines like Bitcoin ASIC may be a lot easier for retailers to understand,” he said.
Meanwhile, according to Feixiaohao, a Chinese service comparable to CoinMarketCap, nearly 50 Chinese crypto exchanges are often somewhat unknown with some of the more well-known exchanges including Gate.io and Biki — have listed trading pairs for Filecoin currency contracts for USDT.
In bitcoin mining, at the current difficulty level, one segment per second (TH / s) fragmentation rate is expected to generate around 0.000008 BTC within 24 hours. The higher the number of TH / s, the greater the number of bitcoins it should be able to produce proportionately. But in Filecoin, the efficient mining force of miners depends on the amount of data stamped on the hard drive, not the total size of the hard drive.
To close data in the hard drive, the Filecoin miner still needs processing power, i.e. CPU or GPU as well as RAM. More powerful processors with improved software can confine data to the hard drive more quickly, so miners can combine more efficient mining energy faster on a given day.
As of this stage, there appears to be no transparent way at the network level for retail investors to see how much of the purchased hard disk drive was purchased which actually represents an effective mining force.
The U.S.-based Labs Protocol was behind Filecoin’s initial coin offer for 2017, which raised an astonishing $ 200 million.
This was in addition to a $ 50 million increase in private investment supported by notable venture capital projects including Sequoia, Anderson Horowitz and Union Square Ventures. CoinDk’s parent company, CoinDk, has also invested in Protocol Labs.
After rounds of delay, Protocol Protocols said in September 2019 that a testnet launch would be available around December 2019 and the main network would be rolled out in the first quarter of 2020.
The test started as promised, but the main network has been delayed again and is now expected to launch in August 2020. What is Filecoin mining process?
Filecoin mainly consists of three parts: the storage market (the chain), the blockecin Filecoin, and the search market (under the chain). Storage and research market in series and series respectively for security and efficiency. For users, the storage frequency is relatively low, and the security requirements are relatively high, so the storage process is placed on the chain. The retrieval frequency is much higher than the storage frequency when there is a certain amount of data. Given the performance problem in processing data on the chain, the retrieval process under the chain is performed. In order to solve the security issue of payment in the retrieval process, Filecoin adopts the micro-payment strategy. In simple terms, the process is to split the document into several copies, and every time the user gets a portion of the data, the corresponding fee is paid. Types of mines corresponding to Filecoin’s two major markets are miners and warehousers, among whom miners are primarily responsible for storing data and block packages, while miners are primarily responsible for data query. After the stable operation of the major Filecoin network in the future, the mining operator will be introduced, who is the main responsible for data maintenance.
In the initial release of Filecoin, the request matching mechanism was not implemented in the storage market and retrieval market, but the takeover mechanism was adopted. The three main parts of Filecoin correspond to three processes, namely the stored procedure, retrieval process, packaging and reward process. The following figure shows the simplified process and the income of the miners:
The Filecoin mining process is much more complicated, and the important factor in determining the previous mining profit is efficient storage. Effective storage is a key feature that distinguishes Filecoin from other decentralized storage projects. In Filecoin’s EC consensus, effective storage is similar to interest in PoS, which determines the likelihood that a miner will get the right to fill, that is, the proportion of miners effectively stored in the entire network is proportional to final mining revenue.
It is also possible to obtain higher effective storage under the same hardware conditions by improving the mining algorithm. However, the current increase in the number of benefits that can be achieved by improving the algorithm is still unknown.
It seeks to promote mining using Filecoin Discover
Filecoin announced Filecoin Discover — a step to encourage miners to join the Filecoin network. According to the company, Filecoin Discover is “an ever-growing catalog of numerous petabytes of public data covering literature, science, art, and history.” Miners interested in sharing can choose which data sets they want to store, and receive that data on a drive at a cost. In exchange for storing this verified data, miners will earn additional Filecoin above the regular block rewards for storing data. Includes the current catalog of open source data sets; ENCODE, 1000 Genomes, Project Gutenberg, Berkley Self-driving data, more projects, and datasets are added every day.
Ian Darrow, Head of Operations at Filecoin, commented on the announcement:
“Over 2.5 quintillion bytes of data are created every day. This data includes 294 billion emails, 500 million tweets and 64 billion messages on social media. But it is also climatology reports, disease tracking maps, connected vehicle coordinates and much more. It is extremely important that we maintain data that will serve as the backbone for future research and discovery”.
Miners who choose to participate in Filecoin Discover may receive hard drives pre-loaded with verified data, as well as setup and maintenance instructions, depending on the company. The Filecoin team will also host the Slack (fil-Discover-support) channel where miners can learn more.
Filecoin got its fair share of obstacles along the way. Last month Filecoin announced a further delay before its main network was officially launched — after years of raising funds.
In late July QEBR (OTC: QEBR) announced that it had ceded ownership of two subsidiaries in order to focus all of the company’s resources on building blockchain-based mining operations.
The QEBR technology team previously announced that it has proven its system as a Filecoin node valid with CPU, GPU, bandwidth and storage compatibility that meets all IPFS guidelines. The QEBR test system is connected to the main Filecoin blockchain and the already mined filecoin coin has already been tested.
“The disclosure of Sheen Boom and Jihye will allow our team to focus only on the upcoming global launch of Filecoin. QEBR branch, Shenzhen DZD Digital Technology Ltd. (“ DZD “), has a strong background in blockchain development, extraction Data, data acquisition, data processing, data technology research. We strongly believe Filecoin has the potential to be a leading blockchain-based cryptocurrency and will make every effort to make QEBR an important player when Mainecoin mainnet will be launched soon”.
IPFS and Filecoin
Filecoin and IPFS are complementary protocols for storing and sharing data in a decentralized network. While users are not required to use Filecoin and IPFS together, the two combined are working to resolve major failures in the current web infrastructure.
IPFS
It is an open source protocol that allows users to store and transmit verifiable data with each other. IPFS users insist on data on the network by installing it on their own device, to a third-party cloud service (known as Pinning Services), or through community-oriented systems where a group of individual IPFS users share resources to ensure the content stays live.
The lack of an integrated catalytic mechanism is the challenge Filecoin hopes to solve by allowing users to catalyze long-term distributed storage at competitive prices through the storage contract market, while maintaining the efficiency and flexibility that the IPFS network provides.
Using IPFS
In IPFS, the data is hosted by the required data installation nodes. For data to persist while the user node is offline, users must either rely on their other peers to install their data voluntarily or use a central install service to store data.
Peer-to-peer reliance caching data may be a good thing as one or multiple organizations share common files on an internal network, or where strong social contracts can be used to ensure continued hosting and preservation of content in the long run. Most users in an IPFS network use an installation service.
Using Filecoin
The last option is to install your data in a decentralized storage market, such as Filecoin. In Filecoin’s structure, customers make regular small payments to store data when a certain availability, while miners earn those payments by constantly checking the integrity of this data, storing it, and ensuring its quick recovery. This allows users to motivate Filecoin miners to ensure that their content will be live when it is needed, a distinct advantage of relying only on other network users as required using IPFS alone.
Filecoin, powered by IPFS
It is important to know that Filecoin is built on top of IPFS. Filecoin aims to be a very integrated and seamless storage market that takes advantage of the basic functions provided by IPFS, they are connected to each other, but can be implemented completely independently of each other. Users do not need to interact with Filecoin in order to use IPFS.
Some advantages of sharing Filecoin with IPFS:
Of all the decentralized storage projects, Filecoin is undoubtedly the most interested, and IPFS has been running stably for two years, fully demonstrating the strength of its core protocol.
Filecoin’s ability to obtain market share from traditional central storage depends on end-user experience and storage price. Currently, most Filecoin nodes are posted in the IDC room. Actual deployment and operation costs are not reduced compared to traditional central cloud storage, and the storage process is more complicated.
PoRep and PoSt, which has a large number of proofs of unknown operation, are required to cause the actual storage cost to be so, in the early days of the release of Filecoin. The actual cost of storing data may be higher than the cost of central cloud storage, but the initial storage node may reduce the storage price in order to obtain block rewards, which may result in the actual storage price lower than traditional central cloud storage.
In the long term, Filecoin still needs to take full advantage of its P2P storage, convert storage devices from specialization to civil use, and improve its algorithms to reduce storage costs without affecting user experience. The storage problem is an important problem to be solved in the blockchain field, so a large number of storage projects were presented at the 19th Web3 Summit. IPFS is an important part of Web3 visibility. Its development will affect the development of Web3 to some extent. Likewise, Web3 development somewhat determines the future of IPFS. Filecoin is an IPFS-based storage class project initiated by IPFS. There is no doubt that he is highly expected.

HODL HEATING? Making $5,000-$20,000 While Heating my House for the winter - Can it be done?

We can start with a disclaimer by saying that: this might be a crazy or weird concept, but I believe it is possible; and I will be doing it to ensure that it is possible for anyone.
Thought: “I am going to heat my house and make $5000 this winter”
Possibility: Who knows?
I contacted a local mining operation who has always been great to me (Info about them below) and store last month and they let me know that they have been selling off some of the miners as they had one of their warehouses shut down by the town (they said they were selling them at a price point where payoff was taken into consideration) and that they had over 5000 computers to sell. So I purchased 8 Miners to see what happened, I had them shipped as they were coming from a Georgia mining operation they had. The miners showed up today and Im getting the power ready at my own house, the mining company joked with me about the idea of heating my house for the winter, cold upstate New York. The miners, as this community knows, put off an incredible amount of heat when hashing. I plan to setup the miners in place of my central air system in my house and heat my entire house with them. I believe that I can make money while heating my house, which would normally cost me around $500 a month for around 5 months, so $2500 in savings. And my calculator says that I should make around $470 a month, and i plan to buy more miners anyways from BCM, as they were very cheap and great condition for used miners. The savings and profit should make me around $5000 in the winter alone. I will keep everyone updated and post a list of all my transactions and endeavors within the crypto and bitcoin market/space for anyone interested below.

Last year, I came across BCM (BigCatMining) as they have a location in my area upstate New York. I had been into bitcoin and crypto for a little while and I toyed with the idea of mining and realized that I missed the boat, so cloud mining sounded like the option for me. I contacted BCM at their website Link about a year ago asking about a cloud contract, and they were very helpful with setting me up, (huge shoutout). I think I spent around $500 on a contract and by the time the contract was up I had generated around $720 or so. With the confidence boost from that return I decided to buy a $5000 Contract expecting to get $2000 in profit and after a few months of waiting generated $12000 which was $7000 in Profit. I proceeded to invest with them a few times where I either gained or lost money but it was an overall positive and they kept me updated throughout the entire process. I believe I profited around $15,000 overall through my cloud mining experience. But again a huge shoutout to bigcatmining.com for giving me all the opportunities they have, and just overall friendly and fair services (Rare to come by, especially in this market).
List 2017-Now
MISC BITCOIN purchases/investments:
-Bought 5 Bitcoin at around $8500 before 19k upsurge sold around $13,000 on the downward cycle (Profit: $22000 or so)
-Bought a total of $12,000 in mining contracts from bigcatmining.com Made around $27000 (Profit: $15000)

HODL HEATING Setup:
-Bought 8 Miners $2800 (Might buy 12 more?) (Profit/savings: TBD)
-Rerouted the Central air from a small room with an outward air handler Cost $600 Materials.

A Glance at the Heart: Proof-of-Authority Technology in the UMI Network

A Glance at the Heart: Proof-of-Authority Technology in the UMI Network

Greetings from the UMI Team! Our Whitepaper describes in detail the key pros and cons of the two mechanisms which the great majority of other cryptocurrencies are based on:
Proof-of-Work (PoW) — mining technology. Used in Bitcoin, Ethereum, Litecoin, Monero, etc.
Proof-of-Stake (PoS) and its derivatives — forging technology. Used in Nxt, PeerCoin, NEO, PRIZM, etc.
As a result of a careful analysis of PoW and PoS, which are designed to fight against centralization, there came a conclusion that they both fail to perform their main mission and, in the long run, they lead to the network centralization and poor performance. For this reason, we took a different approach. We use Proof-of-Authority (PoA) algorithm coupled with master nodes, which can ensure the UMI network with decentralization and maximum speed.
The Whitepaper allows you to understand the obvious things. This article will give you a clear and detailed explanation of the technology implemented in the UMI network. Let's glance at the heart of the network right now.
Proof-of-Authority: How and Why It Emerged
It's been over a decade since the first transaction in the Bitcoin network. Over this time, the blockchain technology has undergone some qualitative changes. It's down to the fact that the cryptocurrency world seeing the emerging Proof-of-Work defects in the Bitcoin network year after year has actively searched for ways to eliminate them.
PoW decentralization and reliability has an underside of low capacity and scalability problem that prevents the network from rectifying this shortcoming. Moreover, with the growing popularity of Bitcoin, greed of miners who benefit from high fees resulting from the low network throughput has become a serious problem. Miners have also started to create pools making the network more and more centralized. The “human factor” that purposefully slowed down the network and undermined its security could never be eliminated. All this essentially limits the potential for using PoW-based cryptocurrencies on a bigger scale.
Since PoW upgrade ideas came to nothing, crypto community activists have suggested cardinally new solutions and started to develop other protocols. This is how the Proof-of-Stake technology emerged. However, it proved to be excellent in theory rather than in practice. Overall, PoS-based cryptocurrencies do demonstrate a higher capacity, but the difference is not as striking. Moreover, PoS could not fully solve the scalability issue.
In the hope that it could cope with the disaster plaguing all cryptocurrencies, the community came up with brand new algorithms based on alternative operating principles. One of them is the Proof-of-Authority technology. It was meant to be an effective alternative with a high capacity and a solution to the scalability problem. The idea of using PoA in cryptocurrencies was offered by Gavin Wood — a high-profile blockchain programmer and Ethereum co-founder.
Proof-of-Authority Major Features
PoA's major difference from PoW and PoS lies in the elimination of miner or forger races. Network users do not fight for the right to be the first to create a block and receive an award, as it happens with cryptocurrencies based on other technologies. In this case blockchain's operating principle is substantially different — Proof-of-Authority uses the “reputation system” and only allows trusted nodes to create blocks.
It solves the scalability problem allowing to considerably increase capacity and handle transactions almost instantly without wasting time on unnecessary calculations made by miners and forgers. Moreover, trusted nodes must meet the strict capacity requirements. This is one the main reasons why we have selected PoA since this is the only technology allowing to fully use super-fast nodes.
Due to these features, the Proof-of-Authority algorithm is seen as one of the most effective and promising options for bringing blockchain to various business sectors. For instance, its model perfectly fits the logistics and supply chain management sectors. As an outstanding example, PoA is effectively used by the Microsoft Azure cloud platform to offer various tools for bringing blockchain solutions to businesses.
How the UMI Network Gets Rid of the Defects and Incorporates the Benefits of Proof-of-Authority Method
Any system has both drawbacks and advantages — so does PoA. According to the original PoA model, each trusted node can create a block, while it is technically impossible for ordinary users to interfere with the system operation. This makes PoA-based cryptocurrencies a lot more centralized than those based on PoW or PoS. This has always been the main reason for criticizing the PoA technology.
We understood that only a completely decentralized product could translate our vision of a "hard-to-hit", secure and transparent monetary instrument into reality. Therefore, we started with upgrading its basic operating principle in order to create a product that will incorporate all the best features while eliminating the defects. What we’ve got is a decentralized PoA method. We will try to explain at the elementary level:
- We've divided the nodes in the UMI network into two types: master nodes and validator nodes.
- Only master nodes have the right to create blocks and confirm transactions. Among master node holders there's the UMI team and their trusted partners from across the world. Moreover, we deliberately keep some of our partners — those who hold master nodes — in secret in order to secure ourselves against potential negative influence, manipulation, and threats from third parties. This way we ensure maximum coherent and reliable system operation.
- However, since the core idea behind a decentralized cryptocurrency rules out any kind of trust, the blockchain is secured to prevent master nodes from harming the network in the event of sabotage or collusion. It might happen to Bitcoin or other PoW- or PoS-based cryptocurrencies if, for example, several large mining pools unite and perform a 51% attack. But it can’t happen to UMI. First, the worst that bad faith master node holders can do is to negligibly slow down the network. But the UMI network will automatically respond to it by banning such nodes. Thus, master nodes will prevent any partner from doing intentional harm to the network. Moreover, it will not be able to do this, even if most other partners support it. Nothing — not even quantum computers — will help hackers. Read our post "UMI Blockchain Six-Level Security" for more details.
- A validator node can be launched by any participant. Validator nodes maintain the network by verifying the correctness of blocks and excluding the possibility of fakes. In doing so they increase the overall network security and help master nodes carry out their functions. More importantly, those who hold validator nodes control those who hold master nodes and confirm that the latter don't violate anything and comply with the rules. You can find more details about validator nodes in the article we mentioned above.
- Finally, the network allows all interested users to launch light nodes (SPV), which enables viewing and sending transactions without having to download the blockchain and maintain the network. With light nodes, any network user can make sure if the system is operating properly and doesn't have to download the blockchain to do this.
- In addition, we are developing the ability to protect the network in case 100% of the master nodes (10,000 master nodes in total) are "disabled" for some reason. Even this is virtually impossible, we've thought ahead and in the worst-case scenario, the system will automatically move to PoS. By doing so, it will be able to continue processing transactions. We're going to tell you about this in our next publications.
Thus, the UMI network uses an upgraded version of this technology which possesses all its advantages with drawbacks eliminated. This model is truly decentralized and maximum secured.
Another major drawback of PoA-based cryptos is no possibility to grant incentives to users. PoA doesn't imply forging or mining which allow users to earn cryptocurrency while generating new coins. No reward for maintaining the network is the main reason why the crypto community is not interested in PoA. This is, of course, unfair. With this in mind, the UMI team has found the best solution — the unique staking smart-contract. It allows you to increase the number of your coins up to 40% per month even with no mining or forging meaning the human factor cannot have a negative impact on the decentralization and network performance.
New-Generation Proof-of-Authority
The UMI network uses an upgraded version of PoA technology which possesses all its advantages with drawbacks virtually eliminated. This makes UMI a decentralized, easily scalable, and yet the most secure, productive, profitable and fair cryptocurrency, working for the sake of all people.
The widespread use of UMI can change most aspects of society in different areas, including production, commerce, logistics, and all financial arrangements. We are just beginning this journey and thrilled to have you with us. Let's change the world together!
Best regards, UMI Team!

ATO thinks Mining is different to Staking

I am trying to contact the ATO through their early engagement process. They recently updated their tax treatment for crypto currency taxation, however they are using incorrect definitions of mining.
https://community.ato.gov.au/t5/Cryptocurrency/staking-is-mining/td-p/71201Really, Proof of Stake and Proof of Work are just different models in how to allocated the 'right' to mine a block.
A miners is someone who downloads the blockchain and adds block to it and are rewarded for this work. Its a general concept.
A Proof of Stake miner is given the right to mine 10% of the blocks if they are staking 10% of the coins. A Proof of Work miners is given the right to mine 10% of the blocks if they control 10% of the networks computational power.
However ATO treats POW Mining and POS Mining ( Staking ) differently. There is no hobby exemption for staking and it looks like you need to declare rewards as ordinary income - similar to if your are in the business of mining. Its not clear if you can deduct cost to run the full node and other expenses.
This guide, by koinly treats them properly.
"taxation will be different depending on whether you're mining as a hobby or are operating a crypto mining business. In order to determine whether you are mining crypto as a business, check out this section of ATO's website."
https://koinly.io/guides/crypto-tax-australia/
I hope, people can convince them to use the precise definitions - because treating staking like a business will basically mean its advantages to run the staking software on the cloud instead of your home computer so its easier to deduct costs from the staking 'income'. Calculating the market value for all rewards as they come would need to be automated by software and its not something you can do by hand... Its far easier to allocated all the rewards with a zero cost base and forget deducting costs ( which is allowed for hobby mining )
Its stupid to avoid doing something you want to do just because of the tax burden..

LOEx Market Research Report on July 22: BTC has failed to break through $9,400 in the past three weeks

LOEx Market Research Report on July 22: BTC has failed to break through $9,400 in the past three weeks
[Today's Hot Tips]
1. [Summary of the main points of the Filecoin Miners Conference: 100,000 F rewards will be distributed to the top 20 miners]
On July 22, the Filecoin miner community teleconferencing was held at 9:00, Beijing time. The main points of the conference are summarized as follows:
  1. The hashrate in the reward test is calculated based on the original byte storage, regardless of the difference between real data and verification data.
  2. An important standard for reward test is the success rate (pass/fail rate) of real storage transactions. To obtain test rewards, in addition to meeting the ranking requirements, you must also ensure that the transaction success rate is higher than a standard (standard details to be determined).
  3. The life cycle of the sector miners must ensure that they can convert the committed space into the storage of real customer data through sector upgrades.
  4. The newly added 100,000 F rewards in the reward test will be packaged and ranked according to the whole network block, and will be distributed to the top 20 miners with reference to the reward structure of the main network.
  5. The real trading in the reward test will be completed by the official trading robot, which will be deployed in Europe.
2. [Vitalik Buterin: Even if the expansion problem is no longer so important, PoS is still very important]
On July 22, some Twitter netizens said that the Ethereum Gas fee increase has become ubiquitous. Although some developers said that the Ethereum beacon chain will be launched in November, it will take several years to completely solve the problem. Some netizens also said that the Ethereum Layer 2 expansion protocol, such as Optimistic Rollups and zk-rollup, has done a good job, and may not need ETH 2.0. In response, Vitalik Buterin responded that even though expansion is no longer so important, PoS is still very important.
3. [OMF is about to usher in the cloud mine halving]
According to news of LOEx on July 20, OMF (OrtaMineFund) official plan, OMF is about to usher in the cloud mining halving, and all OMF angel holding smart cloud mines will be halved.
[Today's market analysis]
Bitcoin (BTC)BTC rose slightly from around 9340 USDT in the early morning, rose to 9388.19 USDT and then fell slightly. At present, BTC continues to trade sideways around 9370 USDT. Mainstream currencies basically followed the trend of the market, rising slightly in the early morning and then fell slightly. BTC is currently reported at 9364.7 USDT on LOEx Global, an increase of 0.30% in 24h.
Let's take a look at the data on the LOEX main board. The mainstream currencies that have been declining before have generally seen a rise of more than 1%. 1% is insignificant, but it may be a signal for the upswing horn to sound, after all, this round is an overall rise.
Although the $9,000 support level has remained strong in the past 50 days, any slight negative indicators will attract more attention from the media and authorities. BTC has been unable to break through the $9,400 level in the past three weeks, leading some analysts to doubt the possibility of a positive breakthrough.
We must beware of the increase in the main version, so we must pay attention to its continuous volume performance. If it is an immeasurable increase, it is not necessary to chase it; if it is a continuous increase in volume, we must prepare for the second wave of market launch expectations, and be prepare to attack at any time. So we have to be patient and wait and see.
Operation suggestions:
Support level: the first support level is 9200 points, the second support level is 9300 integers;
Resistance level: the first resistance level is 9400 points, the second resistance level is 9600 points.
LOEx is registered in Seychelles. It is a global one-stop digital asset service platform with business distribution nodes in 20 regions around the world. The Best Cryptocurrency Mining Pools in 2020

This review is not sponsored! Neither it is an ad.
How to choose a mining pool? How to avoid stale shares? The pros and cons of different services.

What is a cryptocurrency mining pool?

A “mining pool" is a server that distributes the task of calculating the block signature between all connected participants. The contribution of each of them is evaluated using the so-called “shares”, which are potential candidates for receiving a signature. As soon as one of the “shares” hits the target, the pool announces the readiness of the block and distributes the reward.
However, if you participate in the pool, then you will have to share the profit with all the participants in the pool, but for the majority, this usually is the most profitable option.

Which pool is better for mining?

The best mining pools should meet the following criteria:

Key selection criteria

To select a good pool for each specific cryptocurrency, you need to carefully study all the information available about it on its website and on the forums.
To reduce the number of stale shares, it is better to mine on the pool closest to the miner. You can choose the fastest mining pool by studying the information about the processing speed of the share in the mining program or by pinging the time it takes for the signal to pass from the miner's computer to the servers of the pool.

What is mining?

Mining is the activity of maintaining a distributed platform and creating new blocks with the ability to receive rewards in the form of new units and commission fees in various cryptocurrencies.
A distributed platform is a way to solve problems at once on many devices combined in parallel. In the process of mining, a mathematical problem is solved, as a result of which you can get currency for it. In other words, PC performance converts into money, and miner pays just for electricity and the Internet.
Network support consists of confirming transactions by including them into blocks and calculating the key (hash) of such a block. The key of the block does not allow changing the information of the block in the future, which excludes the possibility of counterfeiting transactions made in the block. Finding (calculating) a key with the given parameters does not occur instantly — it is necessary to generate many keys in order to get the given one. But this is not all — after generating the key, you need to receive confirmation of the fidelity of such a block from other network participants. Confirmation consists of checking the block key. In the Bitcoin network, at least 120 confirmations must be received. Such confirmation is another degree of protection against distortion and additional verification of data on the network.
The essence of mining is the creation of a whole network of decentralized computers and the necessary equipment that solves all the necessary conceived using their technical capabilities. All these connections are called nodes in mining. And, the more of them are in the blockchain system, the more decentralized the network is, and all work happens much faster.
Types of mining From the technical side, mining can be divided into 3 types, depending on the equipment:
Depending on the method, mining is divided into 3 types:
Interesting facts The terms of Bitcoins emission gave more advantages to those who took up mining with a small aggregate network capacity. So, the amount of work needed to generate the unit, in 2013 amounted to almost half a million times more than after releasing the network. With an increase in the total processing power of miners, generation becomes more energy- and hardware-intensive. This is accompanied by a planned reduction in the size of the mining reward. This way halving came in sight.
In the 2000s, fewer people knew about mining than now. Thas why, the benefit of mining was much more. But anyway there were some risks. F.e. on Reddit now you can find a lot of stories where miners got lost their keys and all the capital as well. But if there are all right with keys, the miner from 2010 has huge funds now.
Mining today Nowadays, it is quite difficult to start solo mining, because of the high competition of mining farms, pools and other entities. In addition, the start is expensive. In order to earn, you should initially invest quite a huge amount of money on expensive equipment and electricity. So you need to weigh the pros and cons before purchasing assets.

Guest: FN Global Community Rep,Andrew Chan

Host: Molly

Introduction:

Andrew:
Nice to meet you guys here,it's my honor to stand here speach for Filenet.Filenet(FN) is the world's first public chain of distributed storage application who has lauchned the mainet, and is also the world's first public chain of distributed storage application using DPOS + POC consensus mechanism.Filenet is dedicated to storing and distributing valuable content, rewarding miners in the form of mining to contribute idle bandwidth and storage. The mission of Filenet is to establish a powerful distributed data service system by connecting all idle storage to form, so any storage device that can connect to the Internet can participate in mining. Generally, Filenet is a super cloud system based on distributed storage and content sharing.

Questions from community:

Molly: Q1.What are the benefits of the FN project for business? What is the main role FN plays in business for five validation and security?
Andrew:
As we said just now,Filenet(FN) is the world's first public chain of distributed storage.
Filenet is dedicated to storing and distributing valuable content. The system provides a file promotion system. The more data is retrieved, the more popular it becomes, and the file can be mined. The DAO mechanism adopted by Filenet, in the system of Filenet, users need not pay for uploading and downloading, which greatly reduces the cost of enterprise server and bandwidth.Besides that Filenet is used to retrieve and distribute mining patterns, pledge a certain amount of deposit and provide a certain amount of storage space to participate in mining. The higher the miner's contribution, the higher the probability of a block.
Filenet is a leader in the field of distributed storage because of its unique consensus mechanism, business model, economic model, ecological strategy and governance structure, enabling blockchain storage to break out of the shackles and develop into a new format, and providing a key role for the development of other blockchain storage systems.
On the level of consensus, Filenet adopts the DPOS+POC mechanism as the consensus mechanism for distribution in the context of POC storage and mining, avoiding the direct contradiction between equipment efficiency and resource allocation, and greatly improving the mining mode in the blockchain 3.0 era.
The specific operation process of DPOS algorithm is that stakeholders, namely the Token holders and miners, vote to select Filenet Super Nodes through the election program, and then the Super Nodes in the block will be randomly pseudorandomly, and the Filenet Super Nodes can choose whether to produce blocks within a specified time.
As for smart contracts, Filenet is a common chain for developers that provides special programming primitives for DApp to interact with stored data.
These primitives are contained within the EVM (ethereum intelligent contract virtual machine). Thus, information about the location of data, storage nodes, and miners can also be accessed in smart contracts.
The world's first distributed storage DApp "Ztiao" developed based on Filenet network is now on the market. All chat data in this application will be stored in a fragmented form at any node in the world, transferred by private key, and the ecology in the application will be circulated and settled with Fn as payment token.
Filenet's smart contracts apply primarily to miners' coin holdings. The smart contracts we have developed may be rapidly realized through EVM (ethereum smart contract virtual machine) and solsea.
Filenet itself has the potential to implement an intelligent contract mechanism, and we believe that future versions of EVM and WASM will naturally integrate with the capabilities of Filenet and allow other main chains to benefit from Filenet.
In terms of data structure, the Filenet block saves all data trace parameters, and the data uploaded to Filenet is of various types and large quantities. While traditional linked list structures make blocks redundant and complex to express, Filenet USES a block chain data structure with Merkle tree and DAG (directed acyclic graph) structure.
The DAG structure is more flexible, more powerful, and faster than the traditional blockchain chain structure, greatly improving the efficiency of block packaging, thereby improving the performance of the Filenet network.
The Merkle tree does not require complete block information, but only the key Merkle node information to verify the block chain number filenet. IO page 10, a total of 24 data, which makes the node lighter and more energy and resources are devoted to business processing and providing services for the filenet network.
At the same time, Merkle tree can also simplify the verification process and further improve network performance.
Molly: Q2.Why does Filenet use the DPOS + POC consensus mechanism? What is the advantage?
Andrew:
As we all know, the core element of blockchain technology is the consensus mechanism. Currently, the most commonly used mechanisms include PoW (Proof-of-Work), PoS (Proof-of-Stake), DPoS (Delegated-Proof-of Stake), and PoC (Proof-of-Contribution). Proof of Work requires miners to solve complex cryptographic math problems and relies on computing power. The advantage of the system is that it is secure and reliable. Disadvantages are its limited capacity and the possibility of “51% attacks”. The Proof of Stake consensus mechanism selects miners according to how many coins he or she has. An immediate advantage is its low resource consumption. However, it opens itself to a range of attacks, such as nothing-at-stake, and also results in centralization since wealth brings more rewards and more decision-making power. In DPoS, the majority of people holding voting rights authorize a small number of nodes to act for them. The system’s merits are its high efficiency, throughput capacity and concurrency. However, the power is then concentrated in the hands of a few nodes, which is not safe. Proof of Contribution allocates mining and validating rights according to the contributions made by the nodes. The advantage of this system is that it does not waste resources thanks to its concept of selection based on resources provided to network. A disadvantage is that the calculation of contributions depends on specific scenarios. In the era of Blockchain 3.0, the consensus mechanisms are to advance under the principles of economy of resources, security focus and scalability, throughput capacity and concurrency.

Molly: Q3.What is the main reason behind the formation of FN? Why do you think coins like FN should be in the Marketplace?
Andrew:
As I just said,Filenet is an IPFS incentive layer to reward miners for sharing their storage and networking resources.
Filenet is also a token which powers a distributed certification mechanism. It creates a cloud-level system for content-sharing dedicated to storing and distributing valuable content on IPFS,demand leaders to results. Filenet solve the problem of data distribution and storage. Why coins like FN should be in the marketplace?
This is easy to understand, why bitcoin should be in the market? All coins can be in the market for just one reason-the consensus. If there just one person who think FN is valueble,we cannot say this is consesus, but if there is 10000,or 1 billion who make consesus, then you can say,FN should be in the market.Fn happens to have so many users make the consesus. The number of people in Filenet community has reached 210000+,the autonomy community is up to 21,the global super nodes is over 51+,Our community is still growing, our consensus is also deepening, because we all believe in the future of FN.In short term,in the mining mode, on the one hand: the tokens will be locked, and the decrease in circulation can increase the value of the token; on the other hand: mining can also generate income.
On the long term,Filenet can provide commercial applications with commercial value. Giant Internet companies such as Tencent WeSee and Byte Dance with giant data amount will have requirements for massive storage. Filenet can provide distributed storage services to solve the problem. Companies need to pay and lock FN for the distributed storage services. In this way, the circulation of FN on the market can be controlled, and thereby the value can be appreciated.
Molly: Q4.Can ordinary users also participate in mining? If can participate, how much mining can ordinary user do? And please explain the role of FN Coin easily.
Andrew:
Ordinary people can also participate in mining,as long as you pledge 400FN,and provide 4T storage space, you can join to mining. And the specific details depend on the mining pool you joined, you can see these pictures for a detailed mining tutorial.

Molly: Q5.What's the future plan of Filenet?
Andrew:
In the 1.0 stage, Filenet is the first distributed storage application public chain on the mainnet, the first distributed storage application public chain on the exchange, and the first distributed storage application public chain using the DPOS + POC consensus mechanism.
Filenet 2.0 comprehensively solves the key shortcomings of centralized data service centers.
In Filenet3.0 stage, the vision can catch up with and surpass many leading projects and brands of the decentralized distributed storage track, such as Filecoin, IBM, Amazon, Maidsafe, and become the leader of the track.

Spock & CoinEx AMA Recap

Spock & CoinEx AMA Recap

https://preview.redd.it/1lagrcjnc9o31.png?width=1074&format=png&auto=webp&s=3136db9ca685dc17477d307df722e5b73ba80030
Spock Network is a decentralized storage platform. In the early stage, Spock Network mainly stores Proof of Capacity (POC) consensus data to effectively utilize the most suitable decentralization technology to encourage miners providing hard disk space. Recently, Spock has been growing rapidly and getting listed on four famous exchanges including CoinEx. On Sept. 19, CoinEx will launch Accelerator for Spock, allowing users to subscribe SPOK with 0.0075 USD. Besides, in order to help our users to dig more about Spock, we have invited the open source code contributor of Spock, Titian Xie, to throw an AMA among our community. Below is the recap of the AMA and enjoy your reading!

Q1: How will Spock solve the existing problems in blockchain?
A: Spock is a decentralized storage application network. Judged from the current development of blockchain technology, PoC is the only choice for a decentralized incentive mechanism in a distributed network composed of a large amount of hard disk space and bandwidth. On one hand, this solves the problem of excessive power consumption in the current mining industry, and on the other hand, it solves the problem of fair competition among a large number of existing hard-disk mining machines. At the same time, on that basis, Spock also supports Solidity smart contracts, which makes the entire ecosystem more prosperous.
Q2: Could you please say something about the team?
A: The core members of our team are all early users on Bitcointalk forum and developers of Burst. They are very familiar with the technology development trend and the details of the bottom of the blockchain technology. Even I with such a R&D background could only throw myself down at their feet in admiration. Their ideals are also very pure, that is, to make Spock a community coin like Bitcoin and Litecoin.
Q3: Community building has just started. What will you do to build the social media that remain active and continuously focus on Spock?
A: Spock is a decentralized application platform. The community also relies on spontaneous word of mouth. Since Spock was put on the test net and later on the main net, many miners and holders have spontaneously joined in to become owners, and maintained and promoted the community. The upcoming Solidity smart contracts can be carried out by polling among the holders, and members of the community will vote through the smart contract to determine the project function expansion and community governance.
Q4: Spock is a decentralized storage application platform, so what advantages does it have compared with the traditional centralized storage platform?
A: Traditional centralized storage platforms generally adopt cloud storage. Most of the data is stored on a few cloud platforms, which leads to serious centralization problems arising from data accumulation. There are also problems including higher cost, slower transfer rate, and poorer data security. The decentralized storage application platform encrypts and distributes data through a distributed network, meaning that no party, other than the data holder, could get access to the data, thus ensuring security. And one of the key issues is that the open decentralized platform can do better in protecting private data. As with the case of the assets of the digital assets of Huobi, the private key represents the ownership of the assets, and, on the decentralized storage platform, it can represent the disposition and access rights of the data.
Q5: Spock adopts the consensus mechanism of PoC. What advantages and disadvantages does PoC have compared with PoW and PoS?
A: In terms of resource usage, PoC is just between PoW and PoS, unlike PoW which consumes a lot of power, or PoS that almost costs nothing. Besides, since the core mechanism of PoC is similar to storing the “hashrate” of PoW on the hard disk, it also makes it possible for the mining equipment to mine in different projects at the same time, provided that several different projects use the same data structure.
Q6: We noticed that Spock also introduced the PoS mechanism on the basis of PoC. What is the consideration?
A: With the POS mechanism added in SPOCK, when a miner package a block, if its address balance satisfies the condition, he or she get get all the proceeds; otherwise, the proceeds will be reduced, and those that fail to meet the conditions will be destroyed. So in my opinion, developers introduce POS mechanisms to create a more equitable and sustainable ecosystem.
Q7: What will the team do to attract more developers to join the Spock ecosystem?
A: Spock is the first public link that supports the Solidity Smart Contract and has been put on the main net. It allows developers to port the DApp on the Ethernet to the network at a very low cost, while developers can design the mining and pledge mechanisms for the tokens of PoC distributed on this network.
Q8: What is the form of Spock mining? What are the conditions for miner application?
A: In SPOCK, mining is carried out through the storage device. First, you write the result of the hash calculation to the device, and reduce the huge hash calculation required in PoW algorithm by retrieving the data in the hard disk. Only a small amount of hash calculation will be required in execution stage. You can mine as long as you have storage equipment and meet the hashrate conditions. Ordinary miners just need an ordinary computer with a hard disk and access to the internet, then they need to go through hard drive mapping, download the wallet, install nodes and so on before mining.
Q9: I am a Windows phone user. How do I download a SPOK wallet?
A: At present there is only the Android version. Versions of other platforms are subject to the official arrangement.
Q10: Miners don’t know how much hashrate they have or how much they could pledge.
A: Check http://www.spockpool.com. There is a calculator to check the amount of pledges required for the time being.
Q11: Does the mining cost anything or a certain amount of SPOK tokens?
A: Now we have a market for cooperative mining. Miners can borrow tokens from owners for mortgage.
Q12: Is there a detailed tutorial for mining?
A:https://www.spockchain.org/download/SpockChain%20Mining%20Tutorial%20V1.3.2.pdf
Q13: What are the advantages compared with Lambda or such? The larger the hard disk, the higher the hashrate?
A: My suggestion is to experience the mining process on both official sites so you may understand the differences between them.
Q14: Can we use the Raspberry Pi to mine at home?
A: Yes, theoretically. Yet the weak computing power of Raspberry Pi itself may affect efficiency in hard drive mapping.

This is the end of the sharing. See you next time!

In depth interview with Mr. Feng: MW is not only the commercial incentive layer of IPFS

Why did early bitcoin players play MW?Why is blockchain + distributed storage the only industry that can combine mining with practice? How can human beings do things beneficial to social storage while consuming a lot of resources?Special guest Mr. Feng: early believers in bitcoin, co-founder ofMirror World Network MW, to solve our doubts one by one!
Hello, I'm Mr.Feng. I started my business in 2012.I'm an early believer in bitcoin. After two years of silence, I returned to the industry with the help of a group of friends.During this period, a lot of research has been done on distributed storage, including IPFS. So this project is also about the field of distributed storage. I think blockchain + distributed storage is the only industry that can combine mining with practice. While human beings consume a lot of resources, it can also be a commercial storage network beneficial to society. MW is a mature landing project that applies IPFS technology to actual storage, and creates a feasible solution for the landing of blockchain industry.
1. I believe that after your self introduction, many audience friends are concerned about what mirror network is doing recently. Can you share it with audience friends? What achievements have mirror network made in these years?
MW is building an easy-to-use and available distributed storage network, which creates a new computing paradigm and collaboration mode of low-cost trust building in an untrusted competitive environment. We have three years of technical precipitation and have drawn on the experience of IPFS, Alibaba cloud OSS, stoij and other technologies at home and abroad. At present, the code base is close to 900000 lines, and it will also be open-source in the future. Before that, we have run a relatively stable internal test network, and many friends have participated in it.In the next three to four months, we will release our technical achievements, including practical cases, and leave a message for you.
2.What the difference between MW and filecoin? What is the core competitiveness of MW?
I believe you have known IPFS for a long time. Filecoin is the incentive layer of IPFS. To put it simply, it is the financing tool of IPFS. It was dazzling at that time.At the same time, storj and SIA did well.We also chose this way at that time. The original intention of MW is to do real distributed storage. I think MW different from filecoin in terms of starting point. The core competitiveness of MW is technology inclusiveness. We integrate decentralized storage protocol and centralized storage protocol to solve the game between decentralized storage protocol, regulatory layer and practicability.
3.Now, MW public chain has been able to apply IPFS technology to actual storage very mature, and it is the only one.what kind of difficulties did MW encounter and how did you solve them?
In January, we asked for opinions on a small scale in the industry. At that time, we fully demonstrated the storage function and blockchain information, which was unanimously recognized by everyone.Because the team is mainly technical members, the economic model should be the biggest difficulty. After extensive collection of opinions, we adjusted it no less than ten times. Finally, we chose the open and inclusive community governance scheme. There is no model, fair competition, and community motivation is our goal.
4.MW will open the test network on April 18,How should interested users participate in the test?Is there a reward for the test?
Yes, the public beta will be officially launched on April 18, 2020. It will be divided into three stages: pioneer, union and world. You can go to mw.run see the road map , there is a threshold at the earliest stage of the pioneer stage. We need to manually authenticate the added equipment to ensure the stability and robustness of the initial stage of the network, but there will be no block reward, only contribution reward provided by the foundation. After the network is stable, we will open up the block reward and enter the computing power contest period. There will be rewards in the whole public beta stage. You only need to send an email to: [email protected] to apply for joining.
5. Distributed storage mining has always been a concern of miners. What should be paid attention to when mining in MW test network? What are the requirements for mining machines? What factors will affect the mining revenue?
I like to share with you the consensus mechanism of MW. In order to make more storage devices join the MW ecosystem more fairly, and further increase the number of stable nodes in the network to improve the network dispersion, MW adopts DPoS consensus and POC consensus based on weight table. How to understand this? In fact, MW is a very inclusive project. Simply speaking, it is as simple as bitcoin mining through the competition for computing power! We have a set of strict weight calculation and distribution mechanism, which is equivalent to the law of the whole network. It will be announced in genesis block. At present, the size of storage space has the most direct impact on the income. In addition, we have a unique mining pool system, where everyone can establish a mining pool and participate in mining dividends together without having equipment. We don't have too many requirements for mining machines. At present, we only have requirements for network environment, and we need public IP.
6.In your opinion, what is the real "visual" IPFS storage system? How MW achieve "availability" and "ease of use" when building a distributed file storage network?
"Visualization" is actually very easy to understand, that is, it can be seen and felt. Now we have developed a complete visual storage path, and MW is a typical representative of visual storage. Here I highly recommend our internal measurement network that you experience. Like using a network disk, your files can be segmented, hashed and encrypted after uploading. Finally, they can be completely recovered and downloaded. We also made a short tutorial, which can be watched and understood by interested friends. In addition, our goal is to make the IPFS distributed storage system available to all ordinary people, rather than setting too high a threshold, which represents ease of use and availability.
If you want to participate in the internal test, you can contact us before April 18 to register. We will also provide 1000 coins for free. After the test network was officially launched on April 18, all data of the internal test will be reset.
7. IPFS commercial incentive layer, but also what value can MW provide us?What is the ultimate vision of the MW?
MW network can do the following:
a.establish an open distributed blockchain storage network, form a multi chain ecology with existing networks and public chains, and complete data and value transmission.
b.set up a component distributed storage network with idle storage resources in the enterprise and individuals, and deploy various public chains, storage networks and individual nodes.
c.build a global distributed cloud storage compatible with IPFS, public cloud storage and private cloud storage.
Secondly, we need to talk about our collective chain architecture. In the public chain part, MW is an open blockchain + distributed storage system, which mainly provides benefits for the miners and maintains the stability of the network. We will also make an alliance chain in China. MW will become an application network of small distributed data center, providing users with low cost, security and high private storage services can also be used to supervise and audit enterprises and governments in some specific fields or scenarios.
Finally, we can provide data backup, verification and query services for other public chain (open source chain) data.MW is an underlying system focusing on distributed storage.
8.Security has always been a key concern of people. In terms of data security, how does the mirror network ensure data security?
Data loss and privacy are the focus of data storage. I'm sure you have heard a lot of news, including customer information disclosure, downtime, server crash, selling customer privacy and so on. In fact, this is some of the problems that central storage will face. With the continuous growth of data and the improvement of people requirements for data security, the data storage mode is also generating iterations, and IPFS protocol is a very good solution to the privacy processing,On the basis of IPFS, MW also uses technologies such as file segmentation, multi backup, encryption, multi role, data correction and deletion to ensure the data security of users. One of the simplest understandings is that we will always copy three file fragments automatically in the network node to ensure the data security.
9.With the advent of 5g cloud computing era, people have new requirements for bandwidth and traffic. How is the layout of MW?How will distributed storage develop in the future?
We are full of expectations for 5g era, which is one of the reasons why we have only launched MW until now. The small distributed storage computing center close to users is more suitable for the needs of the future era. We will set up a demonstration data center in the public test network, and conduct commercial demonstration for the storage space provided by enterprises.
At the end of last year, I read a research report jointly issued. By 2023, the data storage volume will be twice that of 2019. At present, the industry is in a high-speed development stage, in which distributed storage will enter the mainstream storage market. We have planned a three-year development path, starting with cold data, such as archived data, infrequently called data, etc., public chain miner Hosting as a data center is the business model of our alliance chain. Compared with the traditional data center or cloud, we have a natural price advantage. We can even achieve 10% of the price of Tencent cloud and Alibaba cloud equivalent products. When 5g / 6G is mature, we will enter the mainstream storage market.
In the future, we also hope that global storage, open-source public chains, and enterprises and individuals with storage resources can join Mirror World Network to provide a solid infrastructure for future storage methods, and obtain appropriate rewards.

What is Cryptocurrency Mining?

There are various ways of gaining cryptocurrencies and one major way is through cryptocurrency mining. So, Cryptofactsbc will help you understand what is cryptocurrency Mining and how to mine these cryptos. There is nothing to worry about because we will give you everything you need to know about cryptocurrency mining and suggest some steps to follow if you want to mine cryptocurrencies. Let us dig into our topic for the day, What is cryptocurrency Mining?

Understanding Mining

When we take Gold Mining for example miners go into pits to dig for Gold, others use machines one the surface on the lands to detect possible places where Gold will be located.. They find and wash the gold and refine it and get it ready to be sold. That is how Gold mining is done in the real world but when we come to the crypto world it is slightly different. For our fiat currency, the government decides the quantity to be printed and when to print and circulate them because it is centralised.

Cryptocurrency Mining

Cryptocurrency Mining is the process where by verified transactions are added to a ledger which is known as Blockchain. Crypto coins are decentralized therefore no authority or government persons can order for the circulation of cryptos. Mining Cryptocoins is an arms race that rewards early adopters. Anyone can participate in mining provided they have the necessary materials to start.
I am pretty sure you have heard pf Bitcoins, the first decentralised cryptocurrency that was released in early 2009. Similar digital currencies have crept into the world-wide market since then, including a spin-off from Bitcoin called Bitcoin Cash. You can get in on the cryptocurrency rush if you take the time to learn the basics properly.

Methods of Cryptocurrency Mining

There are various ways of mining and we will look a few methods; Cloud Mining Basically these are some of the cryptocurrencies that can be mined, Bitcoin, Ethereum, Ripple, Thether, Bitcoin Cash and others. The main cryptocurrency we will talk about it’s mining is Bitcoin. Cloud Mining is process whereby miners pay money to rent some hardware from a host company. A company owns bitcoin hardware and then gives them out on rent so miners in-turn rent part of these bitcoin hardware and utilize them remotely.

CPU Mining

The use of Central Processing Unit of your computer, which is the brain of your computer was the very first method people adopted for mining bitcoins when bitcoins were first launched in the year 2009. Back then the mining difficulty was very low so just your CPU could help your gain some huge fractions of Bitcoins. But as stuff were advancing the mining difficulty increase and became higher so people started to look for something better and higher than a normal CPU.

GPU Mining

When technology was advancing, Graphics Processing Units were created. They are programmable electronic chip or circuit that helps the computer to solve complex problems. Most Especially for gamer to be to install games with high graphics requirements on the computer. GPU become very popular therefore people began to use them to mine for bitcoins and amazingly the mining power of 1 GPU equals about 30 CPUs. So, in order for you to gain higher fractions of bitcoins as mine you need to upgrade whiles the system also advances.

FPGA Mining

Another invention came into the system to out smart the GPU mining which was the FPGA. It is an integrated circuit that also helps the computer to carry out a set of calculations. It is almost 10- 100 times better and faster than GPU mining.

ASIC Mining

The full meaning of ASIC is Application Specific Integrated Circuit and it was a breed of miner that was introduced in the year 2019. The sole purpose of this ASIC was to mine bitcoins so you can imagine how fast it would be.

Start Here for Much Wallet WOW!

EDIT 2017-02-10: A word about Nodes

There is a discussion about nodes that came up today, where it seems I'm discouraging people from running the full QT/Core client. Yes and No. What I'm trying to make sure people understand is how things work, and that it is NOT mandatory to run a client in order to use Dogecoins (and yes, I realise that browser-based tools like coinb.in and wallet sweepers are 'clients' by strict definition).
That said, more nodes is absolutely a good thing for the network. Preferrably full nodes. How do you run a full node? Just run Core/QT and open up Port 22556 on your router so it can connect to more than 8 peers. What will it cost you? You need your machine to be on 24/7/365, you need enough storage for the full blockchain (currently about 20Gb. Bitcoin is over 120Gb) and enough bandwidth to keep it in sync and share blocks with peers. A couple of Gb a month, most likely. This is best done with a desktop on a wired broadband link. Or maybe a hosted VM in the cloud. :)

EDIT 2017-01-09: Wallets WITHOUT Clients

Since I started helping people on /BitcoinBeginners, I'm getting a lot of questions about how to use wallets without running clients or trusting third parties. So here are a couple of resources that will make that possible, and not just for Dogecoin:
Multi-Coin Wallet Generator Now supporting 129 currencies! Coinb.in Start by setting the currency, found in the gear wheel in the Broadcast tab. Dogecoin Wallet Sweeper Redeem 'paper' wallets containing up to about 100 UTXOs. Bitinfo Charts My favourite block explorer, handles a bunch of cryptos.
Using these resources, it is possible to hold, receive and spend coins in various currencies, without having to run QT or a 'lite' client. You can also download and run the pages on your own device.

EDIT 2016-11-23: SEMANTICS about MINING! :P

Even though there is already a section on mining below, it has been suggested given the huge number of posts on the subject that this needs to be made clearer. Since people get their panties in a twist over the word 'dead', lets change that...

MINING IS DEAD!

MINING DOGECOIN IS UNPROFITABLE!

Put simply, there is no way to mine Dogecoin and make a profit because of the massive hashpower provided by industrial-scale Litecoin miners. Mining Doge directly stopped being viable when our hashrate exploded with the introduction of AuxPoW. Mining with CPU's and GPU's died when ASICs were introduced. And mining with a laptop WILL kill your laptop and cost you a fortune to repair or replace. Mining Litecoin with an exchange that also mines Doge and others will earn less than the electricity consumed, and you won't recover your costs. Probably ever, but certainly not in any reasonable time.
Mining other currencies may be a thing, but that's beyond our scope here. This is /Dogecoin, not /GetRichMiningCryptos after all. If you want to mine the newest scamcoin for fun and profit, look elsewhere for advice. :/
Oh, and most important:

READ BEFORE YOU POST!

At any given time, there are half a dozen posts on the frontpage just like the one you're about to write, where the answers have already been given. Read them. Don't make people waste their time repeating themselves because you were too lazy to bother reading stuff. :P
So there I was, having a quiet Sundy arvo bludge, as you do, when 42points turned up on Facebook and asked me to write a new sticky post for /dogecoin. Why would he do this, when he should be having a bludge himself, I hear you ask? Well, seems he was doing exactly that, and wanted to fob off the work he’s too slack to do himself. ;) Ah well, being a sucker for punishment, I’ll grudgingly oblige I guess.
OK, first things first.

EDITS:

From peoplma
I was wondering if you could add just a couple things. A link to the coinomi android wallet, it's probably the best one out there. And a sentence somewhere along the lines of "if you need help with any dogecoin software you are welcome to make a post, but PLEASE include your OS, version number of the client, and any relevant transaction IDs that you are willing to share" if you can fit that in somewhere.
Also, if you want to link to Prohashing, I'm pretty sure it's the only Scrypt mining pool that will actually pay out in doge. The others I know of pay out in litecoin or bitcoin. And it's a profit switching multipool, so gives a better return than just mining ltc/doge.
And there's these two wiki articles I thought would be helpful to link /dogecoin/wiki/technical for those technically minded newbies or intermediate users who want to dig a little deeper. And maybe a link to /dogecoin/wiki/dogecoincoreguide next to the link for dogecoin core.
From pts2002
Finally a proper sticky post! Here's some other stuff you could add:
zpool.ca mining pool - You can get paid in pretty much any coin, and you can mine in multiple algos (currently mining lyra2v2 with my GPU). Doing about 500Ð/day
shapeshift.io exchange - My favourite exchange, quick and easy. No registration required!
Also, you should add some blockchain explorers!
chain.so - Support for bitcoin, litecoin and doge.
dogechain.info - Official blockchain explorer. Includes a wallet (already mentioned). Live update currently not working (?)
EDIT: Here's another thing I found!
preev.com currency value calculator - Easy way to check the value of your dogecoins (or bitcoins, or litecoins, or peercoins)!
